Continuing...

the ultrasuede experiment, having added some stitch and a few beads... I still don't think it's finished, but it's a bit more interesting than it was. And completely meaningless...

Sometimes I wonder if the blog is a good thing. I find that I publish images of work that I wouldn't usually show anyone, things that I've learned from, but aren't all that good...things that were experiments, or studies, or whatever. Perhaps that's a good thing; I'm not making magic, here, I'm working. Sometimes things come out well, sometimes they don't. Showing only the good stuff would suggest that I'm far better than I actually am, that I only produce the good stuff...nothing could be further from the truth. Not that I need to be reminded of that; I only need to look at the canvasses that I've decided can be repainted, to know that! Still, it's only human nature to want to impress, to want to have good feedback, to show your best side always... perhaps I should go back to hiding the poor stuff, and start taking photos of the cats, or the wildlife, or even the house...

I've been working on the book, today, and an information sheet on Evolon, my favourite fabric, well, okay, first equal with lutradur! It did me good to stop procrastinating and get working, though reading this post, I think maybe an extra happy pill might be in order...and I think Blogger could use one too, it's running very slow today...lets hope I can get this post and its picture onto the site... maybe not...

thanks for sharing what in your eyes is "not so good" work. I know it helps this struggling quilter to continue on knowing that not everything I create will be great. But I still contine to enjoy the process.

Don't forget - we are always our own worst critic! I don't think your ultrasuede experiment is meaningless. I like what you have done with the stitching and beads and could see it being used practically as a book cover maybe. Experiments and studies are useful for others to see, I think, as they spark off ideas for them and can bring you feedback and maybe someone else's perspective - altho maybe you wouldn't always want that.... To blog or not to blog, that is the question..... :o)) Keep blogging Marion I enjoy seeing your work - I'd enjoy seing the cats too lol

oh nooo not cats please ;)) I love your mistakes and I really like that you show your working through things not just the good stuff. (It sort of "allows" me to do less than superb stuff too if you know what I mean)

Ultrasuede... meaningless?.. lol nothing of mine has any meaning... If I try meaning on purpose it all goes horribly wrong... meaning is usually something that other people attribute to a finished piece ;)

keep making and do show us all the way please
(shh Julie...don't make her show cats!!!lol)

I enjoy reading your blog. I always wonder if I should be blogging and sharing my in-progress and ideas whilst they are still unevolved. I think my own inner critic is very hard on 'me' and I can easily talk myself out of pushing and completing something. I feel that by posting blog images and ideas 'in progress' I can at least record my ups and downs, and realise that my creativity is not a steady flow kind of thing.... I'm more understanding of the importance of process these days, and that is why blogging is such a good tool.

Hi!
I just found your blog but can already tell that I will visit it time and time again. There are two good reasons for this....first, because you are willing to share ALL your work, not just the work you feel might impress....and you know and talk about the difference. Second, because you seem to be using your blog as both a way to reach out to the world but also to reach in to yourself. I can hardly resist this.

I particularly liked your post about "titles". I tend to have problems selecting titles. When the work is "decorative"...or as you say, for play...a title is fairly easy. When the work is more serious...."real" work...my brain seems to freeze and all my personal anxieties and feelings of inadequacy can't settle on a title easily. Eventually, I pick one....and I tend to select it for an entire grouping....just to avoid having to find titles again...say, Strata I and II and III and IV, etc.

Your posts made me think...not of some new technique or material...but of art itself.

Thanks you!
Susan
