Disappearing Act

Yes, I did another one... more illness, mine and injury, a friend's. I'd like to say I'm back on track, two thirds through Open Studios, and feeling good... but I have to go into hospital for an operation, so I'll be quietish for a while. That said, as I'm not supposed to be doing anything much, I might well take the opportunity to catch up with my blogs.

Where was I? Talking about the intentions for the new work. To give you an idea of how it's progressing, here's an image from one of the photographs I showed last time. It's printed on canvas, and stitched. I'd be interested to hear any feedback you have. I'm fairly pleased with this one, though I do have some that I've worked on since, and been less happy about. It's a learning curve, I guess.

It is my intention to print each one of these as a limited edition photograph in its own right, but also to make several stitched pieces from each image, with each of the stitched pieces unique. I don't like repeating myself, but I do like the idea of mini series within an overarching theme. It'll be interesting to see how that goes. I find myself taking from fifty to a hundred photographs each time I find an interesting flower, so you can imagine, I have no shortage of material. And I've digressed into other materials, too, so this may run and run. I feel happy to have found an interesting, challenging and wholly unexpected subject to work with.

The pieces are small; the largest size I can print is 24" in width, though I can make each piece as long as I like. I'm experimenting with sizes, to see what works well, and what doesn't. It's a fascinating journey, and Big Bertha, the printer, is meeting my every expectation. Watch this space!

So sorry to hear you're not well again, Marion. I hope your surgery goes well and that you heal fast. I love that quilted image, look forward to seeing more in future.
Be well. Hugs.

I like the way this looks -- the darker warm reds around the top and right with the magentas and whites balancing and giving movement The stitching of course makes the whole thing flow. I think you are on to something.

As for the illness -- so so sorry. In my foolish youth, I thought one got sick and then got well or died, but it turns out that some illnesses just continue on. At least with the surgery you'll get some relief. Hang on -- you have a lot of beautiful art to make.
